A Lifetime of Dedication
Gary’s love for judo started at the age of 35, when he found a sport that encapsulated physical, mental and spiritual disciplines. Since then, Gary has been a vital member of Kitsune-Gari, both as a judoka and a coach. And for over 35 years, he has helped shape the club into the community it is today.
World-Class Technical Training
Gary’s deep technical knowledge comes from a commitment to constant learning. He has completed numerous coaching courses and had the prestige of being coached directly by Sensei Osaka in the art of coaching, as well as many other national and international players.
When Sensei Gary was asked to take on the club responsibilities after the retirement of Sensei Alf, his elite lineage ensured our students continued to receive the highest quality traditional Kodokan Judo instruction.
Our Head Junior Coach
As our Head Junior Coach, Gary is truly loved by all. His unique ability to connect with children of all ages makes every session engaging, safe, and fun. He doesn't just teach throws; he builds confidence, respect, and resilience in every young judoka he mentors. Known for his exceptional ability to connect with students, Gary is the heart of our junior program:
A Loved Mentor: He is celebrated for his unique skill in tailoring complex techniques for children of all ages, making the mat a place of both high-level learning and genuine fun.
Character Builder: Beyond physical throws, Gary focuses on the moral codes of Judo, instilling discipline, resilience, and respect in his junior students - values they carry far beyond the dojo.
Stability and Tradition: Having been with Kitsune-Gari through its transformation into one of the region's largest clubs, Gary provides a vital link to the club’s traditional roots established by founder Alf Walker.
Today, Gary continues to inspire the Kitsune Family, shaping the next generation of judoka with the same passion he has brought to the club for over 30 years.
